Mitsubishi Outlander to Finally Add Off-Road Model Next Year

Published on October 14, 2025 in News by Guillaume Rivard

While the Mitsubishi Outlander has benefited from a mid-cycle update for 2025, other changes are coming for 2026, including a blacked-out NOIR model but more importantly a new turbocharged engine with mild hybrid technology replacing the naturally aspirated four-cylinder—and hopefully with more power, too.

As you may recall, the Outlander also made our list of 10 vehicles that need an off-road model. It sounds like Mitsubishi has heard our wish, because that's exactly what the company is planning to add, also in 2026 (or by the end of March 2027 at the latest).

The news was confirmed today in a brief press release accompanied by an image showing two upcoming models under a black veil. One is the more rugged, off-road-capable Outlander, while the other is the small battery-electric crossover that will be based on the 2026 Nissan LEAF, as previously reported.

Just to be clear, the picture at the very top of the page shows an Outlander Trail Edition—essentially an appearance package that American customers can now purchase but Canadians can’t.

Mitsubishi is keeping it close to the vest right now. “The new Outlander model will feature off-road-specific bodywork, off-road-focused drive modes and performance upgrades, as well as unique interior styling with specific materials,” it said.

Look for all-terrain tires, increased ground clearance and approach/departure angles, extra body cladding and skid plates, unique fabric and rubber trim that make the cabin easier to clean, as well as a more advanced version of Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. The engine is expected to remain the same, however.

More details including the name (Outlander Ralliart?), pictures, technical specifications, pricing and on-sale timing will be shared as part of future announcements. We’ll keep you posted.
