135,000 Ford, Lincoln Vehicles in Canada Need a New Engine Block Heater

We’re halfway through the week, so it’s about time to write about another bunch of recalls at Ford, no? Most of the latest ones affect only a small number of vehicles, which is good news. However, one of the recalls involves more than 135,000 units in Canada and another 59,000 in the U.S.

These vehicles can be found in the colder regions of North America. Apparently, there’s a problem with the engine block heater.

More specifically, the block heater could leak coolant in some cases. If this happens, the block heater could short circuit when it's plugged in and a fire may ensue. Although no such incident or injury has been reported so far, this issue is not to be taken lightly, especially with temperatures dropping and winter fast approaching.

The recalled models are among the automaker's most popular including the 2021-2024 Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport, 2020-2022 Escape, 2016-2023 Explorer (except 2019), 2019-2020 Fusion, 2022-2024 Maverick and 2019-2024 Ranger. The 2016-2019 Lincoln MKC and 2020-2022 Corsair are also affected.

Owners can check if their vehicle is on the list by visiting the Ford Canada recalls website or wait to receive a letter in the mail in the coming weeks.

In order to reduce the safety risk, Ford advises not to use the engine block heater until the recall repairs have been completed. Dealers will have to replace the block heater in every single vehicle—at no cost to owners, of course.
