Refreshed 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Gains 4-Cylinder Hurricane Turbo Engine
After introducing the brand new Cherokee and announcing an updated Grand Wagoneer for 2026, Jeep today revealed key changes to the 2026 Grand Cherokee.
The biggest news is under the hood. Sadly for some, perhaps, the HEMI V8 is not coming back. Forget about the six-cylinder Hurricane, too. However, in addition to the 3.6-litre V6 and the 4xe plug-in hybrid system, customers will be able to choose an all-new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder Hurricane engine—a first for the Stellantis group.

Using motorsport-derived technology including turbulent jet ignition—the auto industry’s first high-volume application—as well as a variable-geometry turbocharger to improve power and boost efficiency, the smaller Hurricane generates 324 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, positioning itself between the other two options.

Maximum towing capacity is rated at 6,200 lbs, matching the V6, and while official fuel consumption figures are yet to be announced, Jeep is talking about a range of 814 km on a single tank, which sounds very promising. In fact, the company expects the Hurricane engine to account for 60-65 percent of 2026 Grand Cherokee sales.
Some Nip and Tuck
The 2026 Grand Cherokee also benefits from cosmetic updates, including revisions to the grille, headlights, bumpers and exterior finishes (no more chrome!), although none of that will jump out at you. Three new body colours are available, including two different shades of blue and the copper you see on the pictures.
Inside, the cabin has been slightly updated, too, although there isn’t much to report about beyond the new 12.3-inch infotainment screen.

Furthermore, Jeep says it has simplified the lineup by keeping only three main trim levels for 2026: Laredo, Limited and Summit. In reality, it's more complicated. The Laredo (V6 only) can be enhanced with X and Altitude packages, while the Limited offers Reserve and Altitude packages. The three-row Grand Cherokee L follows a similar logic, while the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid is also available in Trailhawk trim for maximum off-road capability.
Everything will become clearer for customers when Jeep Canada's online configurator is updated. By the way, pricing for the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be announced closer to its on-sale date later this year.
