Mitsubishi Elevance Concept Hints at Outlander PHEV Successor
Mitsubishi’s theme at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show this week is “Forever Adventure,” and the automaker is dazzling the media and visitors with the new Elevance Concept, an SUV-like vehicle that combines elegance with adventure in a single package.
As you probably know, it seems like every car company these days is launching models aimed at off-road enthusiasts and outdoorsy types. Here we have a design study that reminds us of the existing Outlander PHEV while embodying the next step in adventure at Mitsubishi.

Despite the futuristic appearance, we can still identify some visual similarities with the current generation of the Outlander. Not only that, but the Elevance Concept is a plug-in hybrid, just like the electrified variant of the Japanese compact SUV.
There are key differences as far as the powertrain goes, mind you, notably the use of four electric motors and a combustion engine than can run on carbon-neutral fuel to recharge the battery. The electric motors up front control the left and right wheels individually, while those in the rear are grouped together to optimize traction with active yaw control. Mitsubishi promises long electric range for everyday use along with the ability to power a campsite or trailer, as shown on the pictures.

A clear sign of modern times, the Elevance Concept introduces an AI Co-Driver, displayed on the LCD screen embedded in the steering wheel as well as on the large-screen monitor on the dashboard. This intelligent companion expands the driver's horizons by offering personalized destination suggestions tailored to individual lifestyles and preferences.
The SUV’s interior, by the way, has been molded into a seamless, shell-type form—from the instrument panel and door trim down to the floor. According to Mitsubishi, the cohesive layout visually projects a sense of comfort and sophistication.

"We chose ‘Forever Adventure' as our booth theme to express our passion for delivering the timeless wonder of exploration. This spirit comes to life in models that embody the essence of Mitsubishi, such as the Elevance Concept, which integrates the best of our electrification and all-wheel control technologies,” Mitsubishi president CEO Takao Kato said. “Even in an age of advanced technologies, we remain committed to the pure joy of driving and aim to inspire a mobility experience that awakens the sense of adventure."
