2026 Jeep Recon Debuts as Wrangler-Like EV With 650 Horsepower
At last, Jeep has officially introduced its all-new Recon, a fully electric model that we’ve been hearing about since a concept was first shown just over two years ago. It joins the Wagoneer S but is aimed more at typical Wrangler drivers, with off-road capabilities worthy of Jeep's "Trail Rated" badge.
Built on Stellantis' STLA Large platform (Wagoneer S, Dodge Charger Daytona), the Recon is about the same size as the Wrangler and similarly comes with removable doors and rear windows, which require no tools or significant effort. However, it offers an even closer connection with nature thanks to its silent powertrain.

Get Out of the Way!
Jeep isn't holding back, as the Recon uses dual 250kW electric motors generating a total of 650 horsepower along with 620 lb-ft of torque, available almost instantly. This new powertrain will completely transform off-road maneuvers, not to mention on-road acceleration (0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds). The company assures that its engineers have tailored the Recon’s throttle pedal to deliver torque in a controlled and precise manner.

For comparison, the most powerful Wrangler is the new-for-2026 Moab 392 with 470 horsepower—a major step down. Similarly, while the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid can travel about 35 km without burning fuel, the Recon offers a range of up to 402 km. That's certainly shorter than the 473 km of the 600-horsepower Wagoneer S, but given its superior versatility and capabilities, who's complaining?
In Moab trim, the rear motor uses a 15:1 final drive ratio that delivers a high level of torque multiplication to help the driver power through challenging conditions. The front motor, meanwhile, uses an 11:1 final drive ratio in an open differential design. The front axle includes automatic disconnects at each wheel end to help optimize energy use and range during typical on-road driving conditions when rear-drive propulsion is more efficient.

Naturally, the 100kWh battery is protected with a full suite of sturdy, high-strength steel underbody shields. Elsewhere, the suspension features a short-long arm (SLA) up front and integral link in the rear to deliver an ideal blend of on-road ride comfort and signature Jeep off-road capability. A lot of Wrangler owners are probably going to be jealous.
Let's not forget to mention the Recon Moab's 9.1-inch ground clearance with 33-inch tires, nor the approach and departure angles of 33.8 and 33.1 degrees, respectively. Then there's the Selec-Terrain system, with a switch on the console offering different modes (Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand, Rocks) depending on the terrain, while the Selec-Speed cruise control manages speed on steeper inclines.

Forging Its Own Identity
Even with its full-size spare tire mounted on the rear swing gate, the 2026 Jeep Recon doesn't boast the iconic style of the Wrangler, but it was designed to have its own distinct visual identity—see, for example, the unique grille treatment and LED headlights—without sacrificing ruggedness. A dual-pane sunroof is standard but can be replaced with a fully retractable Sky One-Touch Power Top.
The Moab trim, which launches first, adds even more attitude with gloss black fascias, wheel flares, available side rock rails, an anti-glare hood graphic and exclusive Jeep badging featuring topographical etching.

Inside, Jeep tells us that its designers drew inspiration from the Wrangler's layout, but the Recon feels decidedly more modern and sophisticated. The dashboard, which still incorporates large grab handles, is dominated by a 14.5-inch touchscreen—the largest of any Jeep model—and a customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. Don't miss the modular accessory rail up top for mounting cameras, navigation devices and other gadgets.

Storage abounds with a two-tiered centre console, a generously sized bin under the centre armrest, versatile compartments with removable straps in the door panels, and up to 1,866 litres of cargo space when the rear seats are folded down. Incidentally, the Recon also offers an 85-litre frunk under the hood.
Finally, like so many other EVs, the Recon is committed to sustainability. Surfaces on the seats, console, doors and dashboard are finished in Capri, a non-leather synthetic material, while the headliner and carpets feature recycled content. And how about that octagon-shaped, fat-rimmed steering wheel?

Pricing and Availability
Production of the Jeep Recon will begin early in 2026 at the Toluca plant in Mexico. That means tariffs will not come into play, although Canadian pricing details are not available at this time. Just so you know, the Recon will start at a base MSRP of $65,000 in the U.S.
