Toyota Canada to Extend Cable Warranty for 2023-2024 RAV4 Models
Good news for owners of certain 2023 and 2024 Toyota RAV4s: the company will extend its warranty on the rear electric motor's high-voltage cable, as it previously did for 2019-2022 RAV4 Hybrids.
A service campaign to address cable corrosion (by applying a protective seal) and extend the warranty to 10 years/unlimited mileage (instead of 3 years/60,000 km) has been underway in the U.S. for several months. It applies to 2023 and 2024 RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime (plug-in hybrid) models.

The Car Guide has just learned that a similar campaign is being launched on our side of the border.
“Affected owners will receive an email within a few days and a letter will be sent within a few weeks,” confirms Romaric Lartilleux, Manager of Public Relations for Toyota Canada. “We will extend the warranty on the high-voltage cable to 10 years/unlimited mileage on the affected vehicles.”

Further details will be shared soon. UPDATE (12/02/2025): In addition to the 2019-2024 RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime, the extended warranty on the high-voltage cable applies to the following vehicles:
- Toyota Crown (2023-2024
- Toyota Highlander Hybrid (2020-2024)
- Toyota Sienna (2021-2024)
- Toyota Venza (2021-2024)
- Lexus NX 350h (2022-2024)
- Lexus NX 450h+ (2022-2025)
- Lexus RX 350h (2023-2024)
- Lexus RX 450h+ (2024)
Despite the various actions taken by the manufacturer so far, no safety recall has been issued by Transport Canada. Many owners have had to spend thousands of dollars to repair their RAV4 Hybrids outside the original warranty period. The Automobile Protection Association (APA) has repeatedly called the actual cost of the cable outrageous. Fortunately, a class action lawsuit was approved and settled in September 2024.
Throughout this whole affair, Toyota’s excellent reputation for quality and reliability, as well as its expertise in hybrid technology, have been considerably tarnished. Hopefully, the next-generation, hybrid-only 2026 Toyota RAV4, which is set to hit the market soon, will fare better.
