Two More Recalls Affecting 37,000 Ford, Lincoln Vehicles in Canada

Ford’s plug-in hybrid vehicles continue to be plagued by safety recalls. Beyond the growing list and the resulting class-action lawsuits, it appears that fixes already implemented by dealerships are proving ineffective.

This is the case with the 2024 software update that aimed to address an issue within the high-voltage battery potentially causing a short circuit in the Ford Escape PHEV (2020-2024) and Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring (2021-2023). Because it doesn't appear to fix the issue completely, another visit to the dealership will be required for 8,751 of these SUVs across the country.

In addition to a short circuit, the vehicles could suffer a loss of power to the wheels or the high-voltage battery could overheat, which increases either the risk of an accident or the risk of fire.

As a precaution, Ford is once again recommending not to charge the batteries until the repairs are completed. Will this involve another software update? Perhaps, but it's impossible to know for sure at this time, as Ford hasn't yet finalized the remedy. Affected owners will receive a letter from the manufacturer in the coming weeks.

Blank Displays in Bronco, Bronco Sport

Meanwhile, a separate recall affects approximately 29,000 Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport SUVs from the 2025-2026 model years in Canada. A software issue could cause the digital instrument panel not to display when the vehicle is started.

As a result, drivers may not be able to see certain information about the vehicle, including the speedometer, fuel gauge, warning lights and malfunction tell-tales.

A fix has been found in this case: Ford dealers will perform a software update to the instrument cluster module. To be clear, the operation must be carried out at the dealership and not over the air.
