2026 Jeep Recon: Five Things to Know

Published on November 27, 2025 in Previews by Guillaume Rivard

Following the sporty, more urban-oriented Wagoneer S, which has had limited success so far due in particular to its high prices, Jeep is preparing to launch a second fully electric model. This one is much closer to its iconic Wrangler.

The all-new Recon will enter production early in 2026 at the Toluca plant in Mexico, with deliveries starting shortly afterwards. We'll find out at that time how much it costs in Canada (from $65,000 in the U.S., due to tariffs). Until then, here are five things to know about the 2026 Jeep Recon:

1. Built on Stellantis’ STLA Large Architecture

Using the same platform as the Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona, the Recon stands 4.91 metres long, 1.9 metres wide and 1.87 metres tall, making it very similar in size to the 4-door Wrangler but with a wheelbase that is 14 cm shorter. The doors and rear windows are all removable without tools or much effort.

The upright front fascia features illuminated seven-slot grille rings, U-shaped daytime running lights and a full suite of premium LED lighting. Above, the standard dual-pane sunroof can be replaced by Jeep’s Sky One-Touch Power Top. The Moab trim, which launches first, adds even more attitude with gloss black fascias, wheel flares, available side rock rails, an anti-glare hood graphic and exclusive Jeep badging featuring topographical etching.

2. Power to Spare

The 2026 Recon becomes the most powerful Jeep ever, with dual 250kW electric motors delivering a total of 650 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, the Wagoneer S produces 600 horsepower, and the most powerful Wrangler (the new-for-2026 Moab 392) lags far behind with 470 horsepower.

Sure, the Recon is a heavyweight—we're talking 2,772 kg (6,112 lbs) for the Moab model. However, it can still accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in just 3.6 seconds in Sport mode or 3.8 seconds in Auto mode. The company assures that its engineers have tailored the throttle pedal to deliver torque in a controlled and precise manner. As for towing capacity, the maximum is 1,496 kg (3,300 lbs), which is slightly less than the Wagoneer S and a Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid.

3. Over 400 km of Range

Naturally, the 100kWh battery is protected with a full suite of sturdy, high-strength steel underbody shields. It enables the Recon to travel up to 402 km, except for the heavier Moab model which is limited to 370 km. While that's certainly shorter than the 473 km of the Wagoneer S, Recon customers aren’t likely to complain given its superior versatility and capabilities.

When it comes to charging, it takes approximately 28 minutes to go from 5-80% using a DC fast charger—or 10 minutes to regain 160 km of range—according to Jeep. At home, using a Level 2 (240V) charger, the same operation requires approximately 6.8 hours.

4. First Jeep EV With a “Trail Rated” Badge

The 2026 Jeep Recon is properly equipped to tackle any terrain. The suspension features a short-long arm (SLA) up front and integral link in the rear to deliver an ideal blend of on-road ride comfort and signature Jeep off-road capability. Then there’s 232 mm (9.1 inches) of ground clearance with the Recon Moab’s 33-inch tires. The approach and departure angles are 33.8 and 33.1 degrees, respectively.

Meanwhile, Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system comes with a switch on the console offering different modes (Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand, Rocks) depending on the terrain, and Selec-Speed cruise control manages speed on steeper inclines. In Moab trim, the rear motor uses a 15:1 final drive ratio that delivers a high level of torque multiplication to help the driver power through challenging conditions.

5. High-Tech Cabin With Plenty of Versatility

The modern and sophisticated interior of the Jeep Recon is dominated by a 14.5-inch touchscreen—the largest of any Jeep model to date—and a customizable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. Don't miss the modular accessory rail atop the dashboard for mounting cameras, navigation devices and other gadgets.

And what about utility? The versatile Recon features a two-tiered centre console, a generously sized bin under the centre armrest, plus modular door panels with removable elastic straps and interchangeable cargo solutions. Folding the rear seats yields up to 1,866 litres of cargo space, and that’s not counting the 85-litre frunk under the hood.
