2027 Kia EV5 to Start at $43,495 in Canada

The all-new Kia EV5 will launch next spring—as a 2027 model and not 2026, it turns out—and the company has just announced pricing details for Canada, which will be the only market in North America to get it.

The compact electric SUV, similar in size to the gasoline-powered Sportage and positioned between the upcoming EV4 sedan and the existing EV6 crossover, will offer as many as nine different models. Before we tell you how much each one will cost, let's review some of the main features.

Two Batteries, FWD or AWD

The 2027 Kia EV5 offers a choice of two batteries: a standard-range 60.4kWh battery on the entry-level Light trim (without a heat pump) and an extended-range 81.4kWh battery (with a heat pump) starting with the Wind trim. It can also be specified with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. At the time of writing, the official range figures are still unknown. Based on our first experience with the EV5 in South Korea, expect around 450 km in FWD configuration, perhaps a little more, which won't beat the Chevrolet Equinox EV.

A single 160kW (215 hp) electric motor powers FWD models, while a 155kW front motor and a 70kW rear motor can be found on AWD models for a total output of 262 hp, allowing 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.3 seconds.

Built on the E-GMP platform like other Hyundai-Kia electric vehicles, the EV5 uses 400V technology instead of 800V in order to reduce costs. Its maximum charging capacity, which is yet to be specified, is expected to be lower than the EV6's (240 kW), but still sufficient to charge from 10-80% in approximately 30 minutes, according to Kia. Incidentally, the vehicle will be compatible with Tesla's Supercharger network thanks to an integrated NACS port.

In terms of content, a selection of 18-, 19- and 20-inch alloy wheels is available. Upon entering the cabin, the driver is greeted by a nearly 30-inch panoramic display combining the instrument cluster and infotainment system. Heated front seats are standard and are upholstered in synthetic leather starting with Land models (which also add a heated steering wheel).

Elsewhere, the trunk holds 805 litres of cargo, the second-row bench seat folds down to create a completely flat load floor, and there is a compartment under the hood for additional cargo.
