2026 Mazda CX-70 Adds New PHEV Models, Boosts EV Range

The Mazda CX-70 two-row midsize SUV returns for its second year on the market with a few changes, especially when it comes to models equipped with the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain—a technology that’s been praised by AJAC but panned by Consumer Reports due to reliability issues.

For starters, all 2026 CX-70s will now sport gloss black Mazda emblems and black badges on the liftgate. What’s more, Deep Crystal Blue Mica joins the paint selection, while the base CX-70 GS-L features a new 12.3-inch touchscreen along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The CX-70 PHEV lineup has been revamped for 2026. Two models are new including GS SC and Signature, while the GS-L is renamed GS-L SC. Importantly, the powertrain on SC models provides a pure electric range of 51 km, compared to just 42 km for the other models. Output (up to 323 hp) and torque (369 lb-ft) remain unchanged.

The CX-70 PHEV GS-SC boasts 19-inch dark grey alloy wheels, a power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, leatherette seating, a 10-way power adjustable driver's seat, a 12.3-inch centre display with touch functionality when using wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, the Alexa assistant and an eight-speaker audio system.

At the top of the lineup, the new CX-70 PHEV Signature stands out with premium materials such as Windsor Tan Nappa leather seats, Grand Luxe Suede dashboard and door panels, plus Dark Arbor accents. It also gets additional driver assistance features including Emergency Lane Keeping with Head-On Avoidance Assist, Smart Brake Support Front Crossing, Turning Across Path, Pedestrian Detection (rear) and the 360-degree View Monitor with See-Through View.

As for the other 2026 CX-70s, meaning those equipped with the turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine featuring mild hybrid technology, nothing changes. Incidentally, they continue to deliver 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque when running on regular gasoline (9.3 L/100 km on average) or up to 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque with the high-output variant that prefers to run on premium gasoline (9.5 L/100 km).

Including the $2,195 freight and PDI charge, pricing ranges from $51,945 to $64,495 for the standard CX-70—exactly as in 2025—and from $54,945 to $70,495 for the CX-70 PHEV.
