A 400 Horsepower Ford Taurus Looms

When the last-generation BMW M5 debuted with a 400-horsepower V8 underhood, critics and the car buying public were aghast. When the Dodge Viper debuted with an amazing 425 horsepower V10, reviews balked at the thought of such a powerful car being available to John Q. Public. And now Ford plans to bring out a 400 horsepower Taurus.

Yes, that’s right. According to attendees of this year’s Taurus SHO Owners Convention, Steve Ling, Ford's North American car marketing manager was quoted as saying "The SHO is at the top [of Ford's performance sedan lineup] and we're going to keep it there," followed by this awe-inspiring phrase:"365 horsepower is good. 400 is better." Take from that what you will, but it sounds downright promising to us.
