At a Police Station Near You: An Armoured, Fully-Enclosed Raptor Variant?

Ford’s infamous factory-prepared desert racing pickup truck has found a very interesting niche market that not even the wiliest of marketers could have seen coming: law enforcement. Perfectly suited to the undulating, remote, poorly-maintained roads that surround the United State’s southerly edge, more than a few Raptors have found their way into the waiting hands of various law enforcement professionals that call the region home. However, as good as the biggest, baddest F-150 may be, it doesn’t satisfying one important requirement of most police vehicles: a large amount of rear-seat/cage room.

And one need look no further than this vehicles name to realize that it is certainly designed to court this specific market. Known as the Velociraptor APV from Hennessey, this new Raptor-based SUV sports up to 800 horsepower and the power to repel small arms fire. Using the new SuperCrew Raptor as a base vehicle, Hennessey adds their supercharger package to bolster performance under the hood, and fabricates an enclosed rear cabin in the back that is custom tailored to carry six, seven, or eight adults. Although espousing the “highest level of protection, comfort and performance all in one vehicle,” it’s doubtful just how many buyers will take even a passing glance at the rear seat acoutrements, except to ensure that there’s plenty of steel mesh plexiglass.
