The 2011 Bentley Continental GT - Announcement of a New Version

Published on September 21, 2010 in Paris by Gilles Olivier

The 2003 model, that allowed the Bentley British brand to make a strong comeback on international markets, benefits from a total makeover this year.

A more convincing fascia

To start with, this new version of the Continental GT is not very different from the preceding model, notwithstanding the addition of new ovoid shaped LED headlights borrowed from the new Mulsanne as well as redesigned rear lights and a higher trunk.

A totally redesigned interior

While the exterior of this new four-door sedan has undergone only minor changes, it’s a complete different story for the passenger compartment.

Everything, almost, has gone under the scalpel. The new seats are both thinner and more comfortable. The completely redesigned dashboard presents a larger and brighter multifunction screen. A new satellite navigation system and an eight or eleven compact speaker sound system are part of the goodies offered.

A  more powerful W12 engine

The power of the 2011 Bentley Continental GT’s modest twinturboprop W12 engine has gone from 560 to 575 horsepower. It is of course coupled to a six speed Quickshift automatic double clutch transmission.

The constructor’s data indicates that this very massive coupe can go from 0 to 100 km/h in only 4.6 seconds.

Its all-wheel drive system has a different torque distribution going from 50/50 to 40/60, while maintaining its primary force at the back wheels.

Brand engineers are presently working on a future low range model, powered by a V8 engine.

The 2011 Bentley Continental GT will have its debut before the public at the Mondial de l’automobile de Paris, from 2nd till the 17th of October 2010.
