The 2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS - A more affordable GT3.

Published on September 30, 2010 in Paris by Gilles Olivier

All competitors will agree that the launch of the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is somewhat of a doubtful blow from the German manufacturer, which the competition could have done without.

At this point, the gamble is worth it. In this way, Porsche offers its distinguished clientele with the fat wallets a speedster as powerful as the GT3, for 20 000 Euros less in price. (- $27 000 US).

Another version of the 911

The standard versions of the 911 have never been as numerous, whether in the propulsion or all-wheel-drive versions, as coupes or four-door sedans.

The new propulsion 911 Carrera GTS has been granted larger back fenders (+44 mm), which are not included on all-wheel-drive vehicles. It stands out from other models with its 19 inch (48,2 cm) black wheels, its special aprons and deflectors, including a double exhaust system and GTS logos.

Inside, the dominant colour is black with sport seats and steering wheel unique to the GTS model.

Flat type back motor

As with every Porsche 911, this Carrera GTS version is propelled by a flat type “H6” 3,8 litre engine situated in an overhang position at the rear.

This new version puts out 408 horsepower, only 27 hp short of the powerful GT3, which is much more expensive. Torque is 310 pounds-foot.

Standard equipment includes a manual six speed transmission while a robotized PDK type seven speed double clutch transmission is offered as an option.

It only takes 4.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h with the Sport Chrono Package Plus teamed with the PDK box. Top speed is 306 km/h.

This vehicle will be unveiled to the public at the Mondial de l’automobile de Paris, with sale date set for next December.
