Ford Start Concept Could Be Future Ka; Possibly North America-Bound?

Published on October 22, 2010 in News by Dan Fritter

Although it might not be common knowledge in this hemisphere, Ford’s microcompact Ka three door hatchback is actually incredibly successful. Having carved out a hard fought niche over the past few years, it’s brought a raft of new buyers into the Ford fold, but even a car as popular as that has an expiry date.

And when it does reach the end of its term, the almost ubiquitous Ka may make way for this: the Ford Start. Shown in concept form at the Beijing auto show earlier this year, the tiny car made waves for its unique and attractive styling, and the notion of a 1.0L EcoBoost gasoline engine yielding 120 horsepower and well over 40 miles per gallon has more than a few critics’ hearts aflutter. With a tentative start date of 2014, the Start’s schedule coincides with the Ka’s potential flame-out date. As to whether or not the Start may make it to North America’s shores… well, that’s another question entirely.
