The 88th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe took place last weekend and a surprising star was the Toyota GR Super Sport, a hypercar concept making its first public appearance.

Inspired by the two-time Le Mans-winning TS050 Hybrid race car, the GR Super Sport came out in customized roadster configuration wearing GR camouflage for a demonstration lap. It was driven by former TOYOTA GAZOO Racing driver Alex Wurz.

A production variant of the GR Super Sport is expected to be sold in 2022. The expertise gained by Toyota engineers will also serve in the development of increasingly capable road cars, including the future GR Corolla.
