The 4Runner is a dinosaur among midsize SUVs, with body-on-frame construction, a fuel-thirsty 4.0-litre V6 producing 270 horsepower and an automatic transmission with five forward gears only. In fact, the current generation dates back to 2010, making it by far Toyota’s oldest model. And yet sales remain strong, largely due to the 4Runner’s excellent reliability and residual value. A successor is expected to arrive for 2025, as previewed by the redesigned Tacoma.
