The new generation Passat is made in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is specially designed for the North American market. It’s propelled by a five-cylinder (soon to be replaced by a four-cylinder turbo) in the base version, while a V6 and diesel engine round out the offer. Manual and automatic transmissions are available on all versions, except with the V6. All Passats are front-wheel drive, as all-wheel drive isn’t available.
Pros
- Nice selection of engines
- Few vehicles are as spacious as this one
- Good road holding
- Competitively priced
- Proven reliability
Cons
- Bare base trim
- Some find the exterior too bland
- The five-cylinder engine is sometimes strained
- When will they offer a hybrid?
