Lincoln Steering Recall #1987025

Recall date February 19, 1987
Models affected
  • 1987 Lincoln Town Car
Units affected 145
Details

VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH IDLER ARM BRACKETS THAT ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO FRACTURE AT THE THREADED SHAFTS DUE TO IMPROPER HEAT TREATMENT.

A FRACTURED IDLER ARM BRACKET WOULD RESULT IN A CLUNKING NOISE ON TURNS AND A LOOSE FEELING IN THE STEERING WHEEL DURING VEHICLE OPERATION.

STEERING CONTROL WOULD BE MAINTAINED HOWEVER BECAUSE BOTH FRONT WHEELS WOULD REMAIN CONNECTED TO THE STEERING ARM.

CORRECTION: IDLER ARM ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.
