Details | If the vehicle battery becomes significantly discharged and the voltage in the electrical system drops (because, for example, the ignition is left in the "ON" position for a significant length of time without the engine running), the Airbag Control unit (ACU) is designed to suppress the passenger airbag and illuminate the passenger airbag status light. When the battery recharges and correct voltage is restored, the ACU is designed to reactivate the passenger airbag system. On certain vehicles, incorrect software programming may not allow the ACU to reactivate the airbag as intended. This can result in the passenger airbag being suppressed without lighting the warning indicator and the airbag status light. Failure of the airbag to inflate during a crash could increase the passenger seat occupant's risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the ACU. |
