Volkswagen Electrical Recall #2011132

Recall date March 25, 2011
Models affected
  • 2011 Volkswagen Jetta
Units affected 19,496
Details

On certain vehicles, the converter box is protected by the same fuse as the horn and the anti-theft alarm system.

If the fuse is blown, the converter box would be disconnected from the power supply which, in turn, shuts off applications such as the engine management system, lighting system, and wipers.

Should this occur while the vehicle is being driven, the engine would stall and the headlamps and wipers would turn off unexpectedly.

Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.

As well, loss of headlamp illumination and windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, or during hours of darkness, could compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users.

Correction: Dealers will separate the wiring for the horn and the theft protection horn from the power supply of the converter box, and route the wires to separate fuses.
