Honda Engine Recall #2011329

Recall date September 7, 2011
Models affected
  • 2011 Honda CR-Z
Units affected 619
Details

On certain vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, specific operating conditions (such as extreme temperatures, combined with high battery and accessory loads, and operation near engine stalling speeds), could allow the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to activate the engine stall prevention assist software which, in turn, could inadvertently command the hybrid system's electric motor to rotate the engine in the opposite direction, causing the vehicle to move in the reverse direction of that expected.

This could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.

Correction: Dealers will update the ECU software.
