GMC Airbag Recall #2015121

Recall date March 18, 2015
Models affected
  • 2015 GMC Canyon
Units affected 1
Details

On certain vehicles, the front driver airbag inflator may separate from the airbag-module backplate during a deployment due to a misalignment during assembly.

In a crash, this may cause airbag components to separate from the steering wheel, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury.

Failure of the driver airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant.

Correction: Dealers will remove the driver airbag module and inspect the inflator to module housing backplate for proper alignment.

The airbag will be replaced if it is found to be misaligned.
