Throwback Thursday: Who killed the Pontiac Fiero? (07:19)

Published on April 28, 2016 in Motoring TV by Brad Diamond

Introduced in 1983, the Pontiac Fiero holds the title as the first and only mass-produced mid-engine sports car by a U.S. automaker.

But its short five-year production run, along with its propensity to catch fire, has left the Fiero dangling in automotive folklore.

"Did the Fiero get a bum rap?"Motoring TV host Brad Diamond asked. "And did Pontiac bail out too early?"

And so it was in 1997 that Brad and the Motoring TV team set out to find out who killed the Pontiac Fiero.

This segment originally appeared on Episode 18 of Motoring 1997.
