McLaren P1 Hybrid with 916 Horsepower

Until now, McLaren has been showing off its P1 speedster while remaining mum about its mechanics.

But now the news is out: the McLaren P1 is powered by an almighty hybrid drivetrain.

Rechargeable Hybrid Drivetrain

The P1 is equipped with the MP4-12C’s mid-mounted engine, namely the powerful 3.8L twin-turbo V8 whose power is up to 737 hp from 625.

The gas engine is paired with an electric motor that offers another 179 hp.

In total, the McLaren P1 delivers 916 hp.

Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery gives the vehicle an all-electric range of just 20 km .

In its fastest charge mode, the battery fully recharge in just two hours.

Infused with McLaren’s Formula 1 expertise, the sensual P1 features a sequential transmission with wheel-mounted paddles and the IPAS button, which activates the electric motor for instant delivery of maximum power.

This spectacular ultra-light, high-performance vehicle will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
