Mercedes Bringing Race-Prepped CLA to Frankfurt

Published on September 5, 2013 in Frankfurt by Danny Geraghty

Mercedes-Benz released several photos on their Facebook page of a race-prepped CLA and a performance street version of the new sedan that they plan to bring to the Frankfurt Motor Show Next week.

The concept racecar is based on the CLA45 AMG comprises a myriad of upgrades as a competition body kit, racing wheels, carbon-fiber body panels and stripped interior among other things. The details of the powertrain have not been revealed likely because they are yet to be determined. The final configuration could change significantly depending on which series Mercedes plans to race the car in.

Also on the page, Mercedes revealed the CLA250 Sport which is a performance version to be produced for general consumption. It’ll be more powerful than a base CLA but not quite as powerful as the CLA45. No word on whether it’ll make it to our shores.

Stay tuned for The Car Guide’s coverage of the show for more details.
