BMW Concept Active Tourer Outdoor Visits Canada

Published on February 11, 2014 in Toronto by Gilles Olivier

In Europe it’s already called the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and next month in Geneva we get a glimpse of the production model. This vehicle will become the main rival to the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and the Audi A3 Qubic in development.

This week, the Concept Active Tourer Outdoor will debut on Canadian soil at the Toronto Auto Show.

Concept Active Tourer Outdoor

First seen in 2012 at the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris and then again last year in Frankfurt, BMW presented its Concept Active Tourer Outdoor as a concept which was extremely similar to the production model.

It’s aimed at a much more active clientele who are fond of summer and winter sports. For example, it has built a bike rack directly into the cargo area which is adorned with easy-to-clean materials.

Inside we find the exclusive BMW ConnectedDrive infotainment system, where different applications are controlled through an 8-inch screen.

A rechargeable hybrid drivetrain

It’s powered by a rechargeable hybrid system that combines a three-cylinder 1.5-liter TwinPower turbo engine with an electric motor. The total output of the vehicle is 190 horsepower.

Some Performance Figures:

- Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds
- Top speed of 200 km/h
- Range in all-electric mode is 30 km
- Fuel consumption of only 2.5 L/100 km
