Toyota Tops List of Most Fuel-Efficient Vehicles

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has named six Toyota vehicles as best in class in terms of energy efficiency for the 2014 model year. This is more than any other automaker.

The agency says their innovations continue to improve conventional vehicles leading to advanced technologies such as hybrid, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen vehicles.

Vehicles receiving the lowest estimated annual consumption in their respective categories include the following models:

• Toyota Prius c (compact car)
• Toyota Prius (midsize car)
• Toyota Prius v (wagon)
• Toyota Tacoma (small pickup)
• Toyota Highlander Hybrid AWD LE Plus (SUV)
• Scion iQ (micro car)

This is the 14th consecutive year that a vehicle from the Prius family is on the list, including the Prius v that has dominated during the three years following its inception.

"Superior fuel economy has always been the hallmark of Toyota vehicles," said Seiji Ichii, President and CEO of Toyota Canada Inc. "This recognition from Natural Resources Canada is an important validation of our leadership in this crucial area”.

Starting in 2015 the Government of Canada will implement changes to the testing methodology. Three tests will be added to better represent city and highway driving: driving at higher speeds with quicker acceleration and braking, use of air conditioning and driving in cold weather.
