2015 Volkswagen Passat Unveiled

Good news, the new Passat has just been unveiled! However, don’t run to your nearest VW dealership just yet as this is the euro-only version, and there has been no confirmation about whether or not it will come here.

First of all, it is important to note that there are two versions of the Passat. In 2011, Volkswagen came up with an all-new midsize car developed exclusively for the north-American market. While it sports Passat badges, it is a completely different car than the other models sold around the world. But, sales numbers are good, and critics generally like the American car.

However, the European model was due for a refresh, and VW took the occasion to move its Passat upmarket. It is larger, more spacious and more luxurious. The manufacturer is now looking to steal a few sales from Mercedes-Benz and its C-class.

In Europe, the new Passat will have no less than 10 engine choices (a mix of gasoline and diesel mills), offering between 120 and 280 HP. New for 2015 is a plug-in hybrid. European buyers can also choose between a sedan and a wagon. The car will offer cutting-edge technology, some of it (like the digital dashboard) borrowed from Audi.

Pricing for the Volkswagen Passat starts at 25,875 euros ($37,458 CAD) for the sedan, and 25,950 euros ($37,567 CAD) for the wagon.
