Here Is The First 2014 Lightweight E-Type

A few weeks ago, we mentioned that Jaguar would finally build the six missing Lightweight E-Types that they kept since 1963. Of the original 1963 18-unit run, only 12 were actually produced. The final assembly will be completed by the Special Vehicle Division of Jaguar Land Rover.

Now, Jaguar just unveiled the first of these completed vehicles, dubbed Prototype Zero. It is entirely made of aluminium, and it is assembled using the same standards as the original ones, 50 years ago.

These handmade beauties will be eligible for historic racing series, since they won’t be road-legal.

Inside, the seats are covered in special leather that was treated using 1960’s techniques. In race car fashion, the cockpit is mostly bare, but owners can opt for a more fleshed-out look.

Since they are made of aluminium, these vehicles are 114 kg lighter than a regular E-Type. Power comes from a 3.8L inline-six topped by three Weber carburetors. This mill produces 340 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via a close-ratio 4-speed gearbox.

You will be able to marvel at the Prototype Zero at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. If you are ready to spend a (probably) ludicrous amount of money to get one, prepare to be disappointed: Jaguar will hand-pick the few lucky people that will have the opportunity to add this car to their collection!
