Dodge Challenger Drag Pak: For All Your Acceleration Needs

Published on August 29, 2014 in News by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

Are you in the market for a car that can accelerate at an alarming rate? If turning, braking or even being street-legal are not important concerns, Dodge has the ideal solution: meet the Challenger Drag Pak.

Built for NHRA Dominator races (where it races against the COPO Camaro and Mustang Cobra Jet, just like old times!), the car can't be registered for road use. However, it can do one thing: run down a quarter mile VERY quickly!

First of all, this Challenger is equipped with an aluminium HEMI engine displacing 426 cubic inches (or about 7 litres), a Chrysler 727 automatic transmission and an aluminium driveshaft. The car is also lightened by replacing the front seats with racing buckets, and by removing the back seat altogether. To help make it safer, the Drag Pak includes a rollcage and safety harnesses for the front seats.

For now, Dodge doesn't want to reveal too much information about the car, since it will be officially unveiled at the US Nationals, a prestigious drag race now in its 60th iteration.
