Scion iM Concept: A New Crossover For Scion?

Published on October 22, 2014 in Los Angeles by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

Scion is set to launch a new vehicle at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and they just sent us a few teaser shots showing its wheel and part of its front bumper.

The press release is relatively short on information, only stating that ‘’the iM Concept car reflects the evolution of Scion as the needs and desires of its youthful customers also evolve’’.

That’s not much to go on, but a visit to the rumour mill gives us more info: according to various sources, Scion could get a rebadged version of the Toyota Auris currently sold in Europe. If you are not familiar with this car, it’s essentially a hatchback version of the popular Corolla.

To enter the North-American market, the Auris would not only adopt the Scion nameplate, it would also receive a new suspension to give it a few extra centimetres of ground clearance. This would turn it into a small crossover, and we know just how popular this type of vehicle is. Even better, Toyota would have a weapon to fight the Subaru XV Crosstrek and Mazda CX-5 (and the future Honda HR-V) which are currently very successful.

We will see what Toyota has in store for us with this iM Concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19th.
