The World's #1 Car Manufacturer Is...

Volkswagen has been quite vocal about their plans for world domination: they want to be the #1 automaker on the planet. With a presence in nearly every market and a large selection of vehicles, they are working very hard to beat their opposition and claim the top spot in sales volume.

In 2014, they nearly succeeded: with 10.14 million cars sold across the globe, Volkswagen fully expected to be #1, especially since Wolfsburg's analysts didn't expect to hit the 10 million unit mark until 2018.

However, an obstacle once again rose between them and their goal. With an annual sales number of 10.23 million, Toyota once again claimed its place at the top of the automaker food chain. The Japanese conglomerate also posted results over 10 million units for the first time. This number includes Lexus, Scion, Daihatsu and Hino, which are all property of Toyota.

Third place goes to General Motors, with 9.92 million units sold. They might not have cracked the 10 million mark, but they still saw an increase in overall sales of 9.7% since last year, a testament to the good health of the market.
