Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Boss: Mr. Off-Road

At last year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, we saw the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Concept for the first time. An off-road version of the popular midsize truck, this vehicle seduced us with its huge tires, small bumpers, functional winch and roof-mounted air intake. It was also powered by a Duramax diesel powerplant, which will arrive in the Colorado shortly.

We expected Chevy to roll out a production-spec version of this concept, and here it is: the Colorado Z71 Trail Boss.

As the name implies, this truck is based on the Z71, which is already available here. To give it some off-road cred, Chevrolet added a locking rear differential, skid plates, a winch, front tow hooks, tubular sidesteps, plastic wheel arches, spray-on bedliner and projector headlights to the Trail Boss. The stock 17-inch wheels are also shod in Goodyear DuraTrac tires.

The Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Boss will be available this spring, and you can expect it to retail for a few thousand more than the $31,495 already asked for the Z71.
