A Road-Going Toyota Yaris WRC?

A very interesting rumour just surfaced on the web: a very potent version of the Toyota Yaris may be in the works. If we are to believe said rumour, the new vehicle would be sold so that Toyota could homologate its rally-going Yaris WRC.

As of now, there is pretty much no information on this –apart from the fact that Toyota has to build a few unique Yarises to meet the FIA homologation requirements– but we can play the guessing game; while the WRC Yaris has a 1.6-litre engine specially built for this application, an eventual sporty Yaris could feature a very potent powerplant, namely the 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder we discovered in the Lexus NX200t. An AWD drivetrain could even be in the works… But the car might instead come equipped with a limited-slip differential added to its front-wheel drive setup. Regardless of how many doors are connected to the engine, this car should be a blast to drive, with 235 horsepower under its tiny hood.

Once again, there is no guarantee whatsoever that Toyota will build this car… And even if they do, they might not sell it here, since WRC is not as popular as it is in Europe.
