Toyota Brings A New Hybrid SUV To New York

Toyota is the number one manufacturer of hybrid vehicles. Since the original Prius, the automaker has diversified its offering to include a hybrid in pretty much every segment; you can get a sedan (Camry), various luxury cars (Lexus) and sub-compacts (Prius C). There are also a few luxury SUVs (NX and RX) and a larger crossover (Highlander), but there was something missing: a smaller, more affordable SUV.

At the New York Auto Show, we will see the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, which will bolster the manufacturer’s rank of hybrids. We don’t know much about it, but we suspect it will use the same engine as the NX 300h: a 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder with a battery pack and an electric motor giving it around 200 horsepower.

This new RAV4 will also probably receive some cosmetic touches to differentiate it from the base-model crossover.

The 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has been unveiled at the New York Auto Show on April 2nd.
