Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Electric Coming
Cadillac has been on a roll recently, introducing a slew of new models, including the high-performance ATS-V and CTS-V. On the other end of the spectrum, the company will also be releasing something for the more environment-conscious luxury car driver: the CT6 PHEV plug-in hybrid.
The main power plant will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and two electric motors will power the rear wheels independently through a variable transmission. Early claims put combined output at an estimated 335 horsepower, with an impressive 432 lb-ft of torque.
Power for the electric motors will come from an 18.4 kWh lithium-ion battery located behind the rear seat. Refilling the batteries will be done with either a 120V or 240V charger, though charging times and electric range have not yet been released. Other power-saving features will include the prerequisite regenerative braking and start-stop operation. Regen on Demand is a feature that will use regenerative braking when entering turns, much like downshifting a manual transmission.
Three drive modes will manage power consumption to match the driving environment. Normal and Sport modes vary electric assistance, throttle mapping and steering feel to either increase economy or enhance driving feel, while Hold mode prioritises the gasoline engine, saving battery power for stop-and-go city driving. Fuel economy is claimed to be double that of an equivalent gasoline-only car.
