Range Rover: 45 Years Of Luxury British Offroading

On June 17, 1970, Land Rover announced their first Range Rover, a vehicle that was more luxurious and useable than their Defender while still retaining the off-road capabilities that made the manufacturer famous. Available only as a two-door and with a V8 engine (a four-door followed in 1981), this vehicle helped Land Rover increase its reputation. Nowadays, the Range Rover name is so popular that its used without the manufacturer’s name, like in the Range Rover Evoque.

Over the years, the Range Rover became better and better, gaining a diesel engine, an automatic gearbox in 1982 and four-wheel disc brakes in 1989, a first in the SUV segment. It was also the first in its class to offer traction control and electronically-controlled air suspension in 1992.

The current Range Rover was launched in 2012. It was the first of its kind to be built entirely out of aluminium and integrates a large array of advanced tech.
