A Jeep Grand Cherokee Hellcat In The Works?

In the last few months, a very singular rumour has been making the rounds; it seems that Chrysler isn’t content with its Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and its measly 470 horsepower. FCA is reportedly hard at work building a Hellcat variant which, as its name implies, will inherit the 6.2-litre supercharged HEMI that is found in the Charger and Challenger of the same name.

According to anonymous sources, FCA is indeed working on their most powerful Jeep yet. The project –supposedly named Project K– has already been approved by the administration.

The burly SUV should have more than 700 horsepower and around 650 pound-feet of torque (it could be less, though; reports are coming in that the all-wheel drive system might not be able to cope with so much twisting force).

If the rumour turns out to be true, the Grand Cherokee Hellcat would have a huge advantage over the Charger and Challenger: traction. It could get from 0 to 100 km/h in around 3 seconds, which would be fast enough to beat the current quickest SUV –the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S–  by around one second.
