Honda Will Race The Baja 1000 With An All-New V6

For a manufacturer, one of the best ways to try out new technologies (or prove that the current ones are good enough!) is to enter a vehicle in a race. Whether it’s Formula 1, endurance racing or rallying, there are various ways of testing out your tech.

One of the world’s most difficult races is the Baja 1000; this event was created in California in 1967 and combines an itinerary of almost 1,000 miles (1,600 km) through Mexico and the south of the United States with harsh terrain, obstacles that are sometimes unavoidable and extreme temperatures.

In short, the perfect place for a new car!

Honda just announced that they will field a vehicle in the upcoming Baja 1000 to test out a new engine, a twin-turbo V6 created by Honda Performance. Since it is a race, specifications are kept a secret; the only thing we know is that the six-speed sequential transmission bolted to the engine is made by Albins.

By looking at the few shots that we received, we can see that the car will be custom-built using a tubular chassis, Fox shocks, huge Grabber tires and carbon fibre panels.

We will have to wait for the start of the race, on the third weekend of November, for the unveiling of their race car.
