Here Is The 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera
Along with the Ford Mustang and the Toyota Corolla, the Porsche 911 is one of only a few vehicles that can boast about being built without interruption for more than a decade. This evolution brought some pretty major changes over the years: for example, the car lost its iconic air-cooled engine in 1996, which angered purists. Then, in 2015, the GT3 (and its even-sportier variant the RS) was announced without a manual transmission; once again, some people were whining that Porsche lost its way and was only in it for the money.
The manufacturer has just announced some changes for the 2017 911, and be prepared, because one of them will once again cause the brand's most dedicated fans to raise hell: from now on, the base-model Carrera and the Carrera S will both feature turbochargers, meaning pretty much every rear-engined Porsche now packs turbos (apart from the aforementioned GT3).
The engine is now a twin-turbocharged flat-six displacing 3 litres; the Carrera now has 370 horsepower, while the Carrera S has different turbines, a better-flowing exhaust and different computer tuning to deliver 420 horsepower. Torque is also on the rise; the Carrera has 311 pound-feet of torque, while the Carrera S has 368. Said torque is even throughout the rev range (from 1700 to 7500 rpm, to be precise).
These modifications will enable the Carrera to get from 0 to 100 km/h 0.2 seconds faster than the current model (which now does it in 4.2 seconds); as for the new Carrera S, it can get to 100 km/h from a standstill in 3.9 seconds.
Apart from the new engines, the 911 also gets an adjustable suspension as standard equipment (it used to be optional), a tactile screen operated by a new system, new headlights and an active rear steering system, like we saw on the GT3.
