2017 Porsche Macan GTS And 911 Carrera: We’re Driving Them This Week!

It’s a busy week for The Car Guide, as we head over to Europe to test Porsche’s two latest creations. In the case of the 911 Carrera, the automaker is letting us get used to the changes over time, with most of the previous gen’s characteristics being preserved so as not to throw off the vehicle’s loyal fans. The new Porsche 911 Carrera will nonetheless go down in the history books because, for the first time, the base model will come with a turbo engine, which is usually reserved for the demonic 911 Turbo.

Obviously, the base trim won’t be officially called the Turbo and its engine will be more modest, but the change will nonetheless boost the more affordable 911’s output and improve its fuel efficiency, which is the main reason behind this dramatic change in philosophy. Some purists have already voiced their disapproval over the loss of the naturally aspirated mill, but we’re waiting to test it for ourselves before deciding whether or not this is really something worth crying over.

Meanwhile, the Macan GTS is joining the Macan line-up and will become, according to Porsche, the sportiest version thanks to superior power and a unique cosmetic treatment. The GTS (Gran Turismo Sport) comes with a twin-turbo V6 that pumps 360 horsepower, which isn’t shabby for a luxury compact. We expect that the Macan GTS will go a step further in combining practicality and performance.
