Tesla Model X: Gullwing Doors And Antibacterial
A little more information about the Tesla Model X was revealed in early September when the automaker updated its website. The official launch of the vehicle was held this week, with Elon Musk presenting the first production units to their new owners. The charismatic CEO also flaunted the merits of this all-new, all-electric SUV.
Style-wise, the Model X sets itself apart with its gullwing rear doors that will certainly draw attention from bystanders. Musk also talked about the power-opening front doors and a few options such as the bicycle carrier and the towing package. With a seven-passenger capacity, the Tesla Model X will feature a range of about 400 km, thanks to its 90-kWh battery pack.

After introducing the blisteringly fast Ludicrous Mode on the Tesla Model S (a reference to the movie Spaceballs), Musk strikes again with the Model X and its Bioweapon Defense, an air purification system that includes a huge filter that is said to remove not only bacteria and pollen from the cabin, but also toxic emanations in the event of an apocalypse.
The Model X should also be very safe, obtaining a five-star rating in crash tests thanks in part to a lower centre of gravity and the absence of a front-mounted engine.
Obviously, the Model X isn’t an EV for the masses. It’s reserved for a well-heeled clientele, due to its $132,000 US base price, and that’s before adding options. More-affordable versions of the SUV are planned for the future.
