Volvo Concept 26: Volvo's Autonomous Cockpit
Volvo was at the Los Angeles Auto Show to present a special concept: showgoers could check out a very unique cockpit in the manufacturer's kiosk and experience a possible version of the brand's autonomous vehicles.
According to Volvo, today's drivers still enjoy controlling their vehicles. They simply don't want to do it when it's too boring, like when stuck in traffic. To show this, Volvo developed Concept 26 (its name is derived from the average time Americans spend on the road during their daily commute). If you want, you can drive it like a normal car, with a steering wheel and pedals, and drive the whole way your own, without any assistance.

However, you can also choose to let the computers drive. In this case, the steering wheel retracts, the seat slides back and a tablet extends so you can do something else. The driver can also fully recline and enjoy the trip. The overall idea looks like the interior of a private jet.
It will be interesting to see Volvo's product evolve in the coming years; we wouldn't be surprised if the manufacturer is one of the pioneers in the autonomous vehicle segment.
