Das End

One of the most recent victims in Volkswagen's Dieselgate isn't a car or a sub-brand: the company's slogan, Das Auto (which can be translated to THE car) will reportedly be axed.

Das Auto had a long run: introduced in 2007, the motto was used throughout the world. Today however, Reuters reports that the German brand will switch to a simpler catch phrase: Volkswagen.

It stands to reason that the brand would want to get rid of absolutist connotation that Das Auto entails: with the current reputation of its diesel engines, Volkswagen would do well not to boast that they are the current reference... And the slogan inspired a less positive version: "Das Problem."

According to a Volkswagen representative, Das Auto was pretentious; if they want to reinvent themselves, they will have to find a new brand image.

So what should be VW's new slogan? Write your best ideas in the comments below!
