South-korean brand Ssangyong Motor has ambitious plans: according to information learned by Reuters, the brand wants to follow in the footsteps of Kia and Hyundai by entering the North-American market as early as 2019.

This name may not ring a bell, but Ssangyong isn’t new: the Korean brand is the fourth largest in its home market. It is also sold in numerous Europe countries. The manufacturer has recently been bought by Indian manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Limited.

Ssangyong offers a complete SUV lineup: from the small Tivoli to the intermediate Korando and the Actyon Sport pickup, there are more than one model who will resonate with the US buyers… if the price if right.

We already know that Ssangyong is currently talking with Mahindra in preparation for their arrival in North America. The brand wants to change its name and is on the lookout for a partner to build enough vehicles for an increased demand.

The first vehicle sold here could be the SIV-2, a concept that is supposed to be launch in a few years.
