BMW 1 Series Sedan: Only for China

Published on July 18, 2016 in News by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

Here, BMW’s least expensive sedan is the 320i. Starting at $39,990, its entry price isn’t for everyone.

It seems like Chinese buyers have another option: in addition to the 2 Series Active Tourer sold in Asia and Europe, they can now opt to get a smaller four-door BMW.

It is named the 1 Series Sedan and is based on the UKL platform which underpins the MINI Clubman, the aforementioned Active Tourer and the X1. In this configuration, the 1 Series is front-wheel drive. An AWD setup should arrive later on.

This sedan will be a direct competitor to the Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz CLA.

Designed and assembled in China, the little car will be sold exclusively there, built locally by Brilliance.

While we probably won’t see this car on our shores, memorize its nose: there are rumours that the next generation of the 2 Series borrows some styling cues, since it will probably be built on UKL platform, too…
