Range Rover Evoque convertible set to go on sale in 2016
Land Rover has confirmed that a convertible version of its Range Rover Evoque crossover will go on sale next year, making it the first-ever convertible in the Range Rover lineup.
Set to hit showrooms sometime in mid-2016, the Evoque convertible builds on the popular crossover by chopping the top for an open-air drive thanks to its Z-fold fabric roof.
Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that makes 240 horsepower and 251 lb.-ft. of torque, the four-wheel drive Evoque convertible won't win many races on the road, with its nine-speed automatic helping it run from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds.
It could, however, be the leader of the pack on the trail, with the brand's Terrain Response system on board, and solid approach, breakover and departure angles.
The Evoque convertible is also designed to scale gradients as steep as 45°, while fording water as deep as 500 millimetres.
In a fashion typical of the brand, the Evoque convertible's interior is a far cry from its rugged abilities, boasting seating for four covered in perforated leather, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and optional Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
The Evoque convertible will start at $64,990 when it goes on sale in the spring of 2016.
