A New Nurburgring Record for Alfa Romeo

Up until now, we could only speculate on the exact speed of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. Yes, with an output of 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque from its twin-turbo, 2.9-litre V6, we knew it was quick. A Quadrifoglio fitted with a manual transmission was able to lap the treacherous Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 39 seconds, which was enough for it to become the Fastest production sedan on the planet.

Well, until the new 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo stole its title away with a lap time of 7 minutes and 38 seconds.

But Alfa Romeo wasn’t about to let the German manufacturer walk away with their record without fighting back. However, to improve on their lap time, they had to make a deal with the devil… by using an automatic transmission.

With the optional eight-speed ZF gearbox fitted to a Quadrifoglio, Alfa Romeo managed to lap the German circuit in 7:32, leaving the Panamera far behind and reclaiming the title of Fastest production sedan. In Race Mode, the transmission can shift in 150 milliseconds.

If you ordered a 2017 Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio, you should receive it at the end of the year.
