General Motors is pursuing its electric-propulsion vehicle onslaught with the arrival of the plug-in hybrid version of the Cadillac CT6.

The flagship sedan is equipped with a rear-wheel drivetrain, a turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, two electric motors and an electric variable automatic transmission, for a combined output of 335 horsepower and 432 pound-feet of torque.

According to the manufacturer, the 2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-in Hybrid can accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 5.2 seconds, and can travel at speeds of up to 125 km/h on battery power alone. In fully electric mode, the car boasts a driving range estimated at 48 km, and with a full tank of gas, total range could reach 643 km. Its equivalent fuel consumption rating is set at 3.6 Le/100 km.

Only one version of the hybrid CT6 will be offered, with an equipment level comparable to the CT6 Premium Luxury trim. That means standard Bose 10-speaker surround sound system, dual-zone climate control, front pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection and autonomous braking, panoramic sunroof, rear camera mirror, heated front and rear seats, ventilated front seats and heated steering wheel, among other things. In addition, a rear-seat entertainment system and a night vision camera are also included.

The 2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-in Hybrid will be sold in Canada from $85,995 before freight and delivery charges, and will go head to head with the BMW 740Le iPerformance, the Mercedes-Benz S 550e and, to a certain degree, the Tesla Model S.

In Quebec, it’s eligible for an $8,000 green-vehicle incentive, thanks to its 18.4-kWh battery. In Ontario, the incentive is set at $3,000 for vehicles that cost between $75K and $150K. However, in British Columbia, the big sedan isn’t eligible for a green-vehicle credit due to its MSRP that’s more than $77K.
